Grant Announcement: Florida Dept. of Elder Affairs

New funding from the state of Florida will support programming at the Senior Planet center in Miami and across a network of community-based partner sites.

We are proud to announce that the state of Florida, through its Department of Elder Affairs, has awarded nearly $1.2 million in funding to OATS to support the delivery of programs at the Senior Planet center in Miami, a state-of-the-art, technology-themed community center for older adults. The grant will also facilitate the creation of a network of community-based partner sites across the region to offer Senior Planet’s award-winning technology training programs.

The funding commitment will allow Senior Planet to continue to provide a range of technology-focused programs for individuals aged 60 and older in South Florida. Programs will be available for free and can be accessed virtually for those unable to attend in person.

“We appreciate the support of the state of Florida and the Department of Elder Affairs as we work to enhance the digital skills of older adults while promoting digital equity,” stated Cesar Mendez Rijo, Senior Planet Center Manager in Miami. “This funding will allow us to expand our reach and provide essential technology training programs at our center and partner sites.”

OATS has an extensive library of proprietary curriculum and a rich slate of multilingual materials in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole that cover aspects of technology from device fundamentals to social media, privacy, job searching, and much more. Most programs are delivered in person by Senior Planet trainers and are comprised of multiple sessions.
